I often find myself beginning a sentence something like ‘it may be a corny old saying, but …’, especially when talking to my 6 year old son. He was definitely cast from the same mold as his father and on the occasions I have taken a breath and kept my comments to myself I have always been glad that I did so I am keen to impress this on him.  However, it occurred to me that there is also a time and a place for constructive criticism hence my twist on the proverb.
